Theย Patriots officially placed TE Michael Williams on their injured reserve list Monday after he cleared waivers.
This was the expectation all along, as it was unlikely that a team was going to place a waiver claim for him after he unfortunately sustained aย tornย ACL last week.
Williams, 25, is a former seventh-round pick of the Lions back in 2013.ย After two years in Detroit, the Lions traded him to the Patriots at the start of the 2015 season for a futureย seventh-round pick.
Williams is in the final year of his contract and stands to make a base salary of $525,000 for the 2016 season.
In 2015, Williams appeared in 15 games and recorded three receptions for 26 yards receiving and no touchdowns.
