Patriots Waive G Chris Barker, Sign Two

The New England Patriots announced Thursday that they’ve waived G Chris Barker and signed OL James Ferentz and rookie free agent TE Sam Cotton to contracts.

  • The Patriots also signed fourth-round pick DE Deatrich Wise.

Barker, 26, originally signed on with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Nevada in May of 2013. However, he was unable to make the final 53-man roster and was placed on waivers at the start of the 2013 season.

New England later claimed him off of waivers and he’s been on and off of the team’s practice squad for the past few years. The Patriots brought Barker back on a future/reserve contract this past February.

In 2015, Barker appeared in just one game for the Patriots.

Ferentz, 27, originally signed on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa back in 2014. He spent his rookie season on the Texans’ practice squad before he was later waived and claimed off of waivers by the Broncos at the start of the 2015 season.

Ferentz returned to Denver on an exclusive rights contract this past April but was unfortunately waived a few weeks ago.

In 2016, Ferentz appeared in eight games for the Broncos but was limited to playing five total snaps.
