Plaxico Burress Nothing More Than An “Emergency” Option For Patriots?

Mike Rodak of ESPN.com reports that the Patriots are not expected to sign free agent WR Plaxico Burress.

New England brought Burress in for a workout yesterday, but this was most likely Bill Belichick doing his due diligence in regards to the available options. The Patriots also brought in Chad Clifton, who has yet to draw any interest. Considering the depth that they have in their passing attack, it’s hard to imagine that they’d add another option to the mix, barring an injury of course.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter believes that the Pats have Burress on their “emergency list.”

ESPN’s  Adam Schefter reports this morning that free agent WR Plaxico Burress  is flying to New England  to work out for the Patriots.

Burress signed a one-year deal with the Jets last season, however the team decided not to re-sign him and there’s been very little interest in his services throughout the offseason.

The Patriot are currently stocked at the position with Brandon Lloyd, Wes Welker, Deion Branch and  Donte Stallworth, but Burress would give them another option in the red-zone. You could easily make the case that having Welker in the slot, Gronkowski and Lloyd are more than enough options for Tom Brady to be effective, but the Patriots are most likely doing their due-diligence here.
