Raiders Close To Deal To Remain In Oakland For 2019 Season, Option To Stay For 2020

Phil Matier of SFGate.com reports that the Raiders appear to be close to a deal that will keep them at the Oakland Coliseum for the 2019 season and possibly in 2020 as well.

Matier says that an announcement is expected this week or early next week.

“It’s for one year for sure, with an option for the second year,” a source tells Matier.

The Raiders would reportedly pay $7.5 million this year with the rent rising to $10.5 million if the team stays on through 2020. The option year is simply insurance in the event the team’s brand new stadium in Las Vegas isn’t completed in time for 2020 season.

Matier’s source says that “all of the major issues … have been resolved” between the Raiders and Oakland-Alameda County Coliseum Authority.

Several temporary homes for the Raiders had been floated including San Diego, San Antonio, Reno and even London, but the easiest solution from a logistical standpoint has been to remain in the Bay Area.

The Raiders nearly agreed to play at Oracle Park before the 49ers prevented them from striking a deal.

The NFL needs to have a location for all 32 teams in order to put together the full schedule for next season and Roger Goodell said last week that they were hoping for a resolution on the matter soon.
