Rams Interviewing Joe Barry For Defensive Coordinator Vacancy

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that Rams LBs coach/Assistant head coach Joe Barry will meet with Sean McVay on Thursday to discuss the team’s defensive coordinator job.

Should the Rams go in a different direction as Wade Phillips‘ replacement, Rapoport says Barry has an opportunity to become USC’s defensive coordinator.

Rams DBs coach Aubrey Pleasant has also come up as a candidate for the job.

Barry, 49, began his NFL coaching career with the 49ers back in 2000 as their quality control coordinator. Later caught on with the Buccaneers and served as their linebackers coach before he was hired to be the Lions’ defensive coordinator in 2007.

Barry returned to Tampa Bay for one season before he was hired by the Chargers as their linebackers coach. After four years in San Diego, Barry landed the Redskins’ defensive coordinator job but was unfortunately fired back in 2017.

The Rams later signed Barry as their assistant HC/LBs coach.

In 2016, the Redskins were No. 18 best in points allowed, No. 3 total yards allowed, No. 21 rushing yards allowed and No. 2 passing yards allowed with Barry as their defensive coordinator.
