Ravens CB Jimmy Smith Suspended 4 Games For PED Violation

Adam Schefter reports that Ravens CB Jimmy Smith is being suspended four games for violating NFL policy of performance-enhancing substances.

According to Schefter, Smith had been appealing the suspension, but considering that he suffered a season-ending torn Achilles during Sunday’s win over the Lions, it makes sense to serve the ban this year, as opposed to 2018.

You can expect the Ravens to place him on injured reserve in the coming days and add someone to their roster.

Smith, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Ravens back in 2011. He’s currently in the second year of his five-year, $54.89 million contract that includes $21 million guaranteed and is set to make base salaries of $8.5 million and $9 million over the next two years.

In 2017, Smith has appeared in 12 games and recorded 28 tackles, three interceptions with one being returned for a touchdown, a fumble recovery returned for a touchdown and nine pass defenses. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 12 cornerback out of 114 qualifying players.
