Ravens Could Replace S James Ihedigbo In The Draft

According to Clifton Brown of CSNBaltimore, the Ravens are expected to allow free agent S James Ihedigbo to depart during free agency and target a replacement during the NFL draft.

  • Brown writes that the Ravens would like to add a free safety to their defensive backfield, which would allow them to shift Matt Elam from free safety to strong safety.

The Ravens have a number of quality options at cornerback, especially if they re-sign free agent Corey Graham, who exceeded expectations last season.  Veteran CB Lardarius Webb returned to form after injury, and CB Jimmy Smith showed the ability that made him a first-round pick back in 2011.  Given the depth at cornerback, it’s conceivable that they could find a more reasonably priced free safety who could step in and produce similar results next season.

Brown names some speculative options for the Ravens’ including Terrence Brooks of Florida State and Jimmie Ward of Northern Illinois, although Ward did not participate in Combine drills because of a foot injury.

We have Ihedigbo listed as the No. 68 player in our Top 100 Free Agents list.
