Redskins Expected To Hire GM After Draft

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Redskins are expected to wait until after this year’s draft to fill their GM vacancy.

For the time being, Washington will have VP of Player Personnel Kyle Smith run their offseason until they officially hire someone in May.

Rapoport adds that the Redskins can take their time and evaluate Smith to see if he could be their long-term solution.

JP Finlay mentions that Smith has the “inside track” on securing the Redskins’ GM job. However, should current Panthers GM Marty Hurney become available, this could change, considering that he has ties to new Redskins HC Ron Rivera.

It has become more common to see teams wait until after the draft to make GM moves, considering that most front office personnel are signed through the draft. However, it creates a situation where the person signing free agents may not be with the team a few months later.

We’ll have more regarding the Redskins as the news is available.
