Redskins Sign LB Cassanova McKinzy, Waive/Injured LB Alex McCalister

The Washington Redskins announced Monday that they’ve signed LB Cassanova McKinzy to a contract and waived LB Alex McCalister with an injury designation.

Should McCalisterclear waivers tomorrow, he would revert to the Redskins’ injured serve list.

McKinzy, 25, originally signed on with the Buccaneers as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn back in May of last year. Tampa Bay wound up waiving him during the preseason and he caught on with the Rams’ practice squad.

Los Angeles signed him to a futures contract but made him one of their final roster cuts as they trimmed down to the 53-man limit. The Rams re-signed him to their practice squad, but released him after a couple weeks.

McKinzy signed a futures contract with the Redskins this past January but was waived before the draft.

He has yet to appear in an NFL game.

During his college career at Auburn, McKinzy recorded 258 total tackles, 28.5 tackles for loss, 8.5 sacks, two interceptions, two pass defenses, one fumble recovery, and three forced fumbles.
