Report: Browns GM John Dorsey “Not Completely Safe”

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, citing a source with knowledge of the dynamics in Cleveland, reports that Browns GM John Dorsey is “not completely safe.”

Florio writes that while Dorsey has made some good personnel decisions, he is believed to be the driving force behind the decision to hire Todd Haley as offensive coordinator over the objection of then HC Hue Jackson. Dorsey followed this up by promoting Freddie Kitchens to head coach, even though there were obvious concerns about promoting him to the head job.

A league source recently suggested to Florio that if Browns chief strategy officer Paul DePodesta were willing to relocate to Cleveland on a full-time basis, he would have a much larger role in the organization.

Florio adds that Browns ownership could consider allowing DePodesta to hire a GM of his choosing if they decide to part ways with Dorsey.

Last night, Tony Pauline of PFN mentioned that Dorsey isn’t guaranteed to be back with the team next year and “several” people seem to think he could be fired this week.

It remains to be seen what, if any, changes will be made by the Browns in the days, but there’s at least a chance some notable moves could be made.

Dorsey, 59, was hired as the Chiefs GM back in 2013 and paired him with HC Andy Reid. However, the Chiefs somewhat surprisingly fired Dorsey in 2017.

The Browns hired Dorsey as their GM in December, replacing Sashi Brown

During his three seasons with the Browns, Dorsey’s teams have produced a record of 13-33 (28.2 percent).

We’ll have more regarding the Browns as the news is available.
