Report: Texans Could Get Of QB Matt Schaub’s Contract Next Season

According to Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, the Houston Texans have the ability to get out from underneath the five-year, $66.15 million contract they signed QB Matt Schaub to last season.

Florio’s source informed him that Houston has already paid Schaub $22 million in 2012 and his cap hit becomes “somewhat manageable after the 2013 season.

The Texans could designate Schaub as a post-June 1 cut which would leave them with a $3.5 million cap hit in 2014. Houston would also take on $7 million in dead money in 2015 as well, but they could conceivably move on if Schaub continues under perform for the remainder of the season.

The Texans would have to pay Schaub his $10 million base salary next season, so we’ll have to see how things go in the coming weeks and whether or not rumors begin circulating regarding his future in Houston.
