Report: Texans Offering Jadeveon Clowney & 1st-Rd Pick For Laremy Tunsil, Miami Asking For More

Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald reports that the Texans have offered a first-round pick and OLB Jadeveon Clowney in a potential trade for LT Laremy Tunsil. However, Miami is still asking for more in return.

A source briefed on the discussions tells Jackson that the Dolphins have asked Houston for another high draft pick in addition to Clowney and a first-round pick.

According to Jackson, the Texans have been “relentless” in their pursuit of Tunsil and has been working to come up with something to the Dolphins’ liking.

Dolphins HC Brian Flores didn’t rule out the possibility that Tunsil could be traded and instead said simply: “There’s no trade in place for him.

Tunsil’s name came up in trade rumors earlier in the week, but the Dolphins later told his camp that they are not actively shopping him in trade talks. Even so, the Dolphins gave no assurances that he would not be traded and told them that teams had been calling about his availability.

While the Dolphins have received multiple offers for Tunsil, Jackson explains that Miami plans to only trade him if they can get multiple high draft picks.

Tunsil, 25, is a former first-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2016. He was entering the final year of his four-year, $12,457,650 rookie contract and set to make a base salary of $2,148,771 for the 2019 season when the Dolphins picked up his fifth-year option this past April.

In 2018, Tunsil appeared in 15 games for the Dolphins and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 36 offensive tackle out of 80 qualifying players.

Clowney, 25, is a former No. 1 overall pick of the Texans back in 2014. He was in the final year of his four-year, $22.272 million contract when the Texans picked up his fifth-year option which paid him $12.306 million for 2018.

In 2018, Clowney appeared in 15 games for the Texans and recorded 47 tackles, 9 sacks, a forced fumble, three fumble recoveries, one defensive touchdown and a pass defense. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 overall edge defender out of 103 qualifying players.
