Report: Texans Have Penn State HC Bill O’Brien High On Their Radar

Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network reports that sources have informed him that the Texans have Penn State HC Bill O’Brien high on their radar.

  • Rapoport adds that the two sides are expected to meet some time after Christmas.
  • Adam Caplan mentions that Houston has had a good deal of interest in O’Brien for weeks now and have already been “doing work on” him.

The Texans have already interviewed former Bears HC Lovie Smith, but it makes sense that they would take their time with their next hire.

O’Brien has been a hot name in connection to NFL head coaching jobs dating back to last season. However, his contract with Penn State still includes a $6.48 million, which will be a consideration for any interested team.

Other speculative options include: Chargers OC Ken Whisenhunt, Broncos DC Jack Del Rio, Seahawks OC Darrell Bevell, Auburn HC Gus Malzahn and possibly Texas A&M’s Kevin Sumlin.
