Report: Buccaneers No Longer An Option For CB Walter Thurmond

Update:

Greg Auman of the Tampa Bay Times reports that the Buccaneers are “not in play” for Seahawks free agent CB Walter Thurmond.

Reports from Thursday mentioned that Thurmond was scheduled to meet with Washington, but he has since announced that he’ll be visiting with the 49ers.

The Jaguars and Dolphins have all been mentioned as potential options for Thurmond.

Thurmond, 26, has largely been overshadowed by Richard Sherman and Brandon Browner, but he’s a much better player than a No. 3 option on most teams.

Last year, he appeared in 12 games and totaled 32 tackles, one sack, an interception returned for a touchdown, a forced fumble and a recovery. Pro Football Focus has Thurmond ranked as the No. 31 cornerback in the league this season.

We have Thurmond ranked as the No. 33 player in our Top 50 Free Agent List.

Jason La Canfora reports that Seahawks free agent CB Walter Thurmond has visits scheduled with the Buccaneers and Redskins.

It’s been a bit of quiet market for Thurmond given the only other reported visit was with the Jaguars a few days ago. Thurmond is reportedly still talking to the Seahawks as well.

It could be that teams were focused on some of the top-tier options before turning their attention to guys like Thurmond.
