Saints Cut TE Tom Crabtree, Promote ILB Todd Davis

The New Orleans Saints released veteran TE Tom Crabtree on Saturday and signed ILB Todd Davis off of their practice squad to take his place on their active roster, according to Brett Martel.

The Saints brought in a few tight ends for workouts last week including Crabtree and Kellen Davis as insurance in case Jimmy Graham wound up missing a few weeks.

However, it appears as though the Saints are comfortable with their other options and there has been talk that Graham could be used in red-zone only situations this weekend.

Crabtree, 28, signed a two-year, $1.6 million contract with the Buccaneers back in 2013, but he lasted just a little over a year with the team before he was cut loose back this past May.

Last year, Crabtree appeared in seven games and caught four passes for 21 yards receiving and a touchdown.
