Saints Re-Sign OT Bryce Harris, Release DT John Hughes

Joel A. Erickson of the Advocate is reporting that the Saints have re-signed OT Bryce Harris on Friday.

  • According to Josh Katzenstein, the Saints have released DT John Hughes to make room for Harris.

Hughes, 28, is a former third-round pick of the Browns back in 2012. He spent over four years in Cleveland before he was released a few weeks into the 2016 season.

Hughes had a brief stint with the Patriots before signing on with the Buccaneers midseason. The Saints gave him a shot to compete for a roster spot during training camp, but he was released as their trimmed their roster down to 53 players coming out of the preseason.

The Saints just re-signed Harris last week.

In 2016, Hughes appeared in five games and recorded six tackles and no sacks.

Harris, 28, originally signed on with the Falcons as an undrafted free agent out of Fresno State back in 2012. He later joined the Saints before the start of the 2012 season and spent three years in New Orleans before he was waived at the start of the 2015 season.

The Falcons later signed Harris to a contract, but he was unfortunately among their roster cuts coming out of the preseason last year.

Harris had brief stints with the Jaguars and Dolphins before he signed on with the Saints. He’s been on and off of the Saints’ roster this year.

In 2017, Harris has been active for two games for the Saints.
