The Steelers pushed back K Chris Boswell‘s $2 million roster bonus until the end of the 2019 preseason, per Gerry Dulac.
Dulac adds if Boswell had not agreed to the delay, the Steelers would have released him.
Instead, the move gives Boswell a chance to bounce back after a shaky 2019, where he missed seven field goals and five extra points before landing on injured reserve with a groin injury.
โI know Iโve gotta be better than last year, but Iโm not even paying attention to last year,โ Boswell said. โIโm focused on next kick. Iโm focused on next Tuesday is my next team period. Just kinda going day by day, kick by kick.โ
Boswell, 28, originally signed on with the Texans as an undrafted free agent out of Rice back in 2014. He was among Houston’s final roster cuts coming out of the preseason and signed on to their practice squad.
The Texans wound up cutting him after a week and he eventually signed a futures contract with the Giants. He was, again, among the team’s final roster cuts, but was signed and waived again shortly after.
The Steelers signed him to a two-year deal in 2015, then brought him back on a futures contract the following year. Pittsburgh placed the second-round restricted tender on Boswell during the offseason only to agree to a four-year extension worth just under $20 million.
In 2018, Boswell appeared in 15 games for the Steelers and converted 13 of 20 field goal attempts (65 percent) to go along with 43 of 48 extra point tries (89.6 percent).
