“Strong Mutual Interest” Between Cardinals & Kliff Kingsbury, Jets Also Interested

Adam Schefter reports that the Arizona Cardinals and Kliff Kingsbury are said to have “strong mutual interest”, but they had been prevented from talking.

This comes after the news that Kingsbury is expected to interview with NFL teams for head-coaching jobs.

Earlier in the day, Alber Breer reported that there has been “steady buzz” over the last three or four days about Kingsbury being a “very strong possibility” for the Cardinals.

Schefter adds that the Jets also are likely to want to interview Kingsbury.

Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk previously reported that there’s a chance Kingsbury may resign as offensive coordinator at USC after athletic director Lynn Swann blocked him from interviewing for the Cardinals and Jets’ head-coaching jobs.

According to Florio, Kingsbury’s contract has a very low buyout.

Kingsbury, 35, was hired as the Texas Tech head coach back in 2013 and spent six years in the position before he was fired back in November. USC later hired him as their offensive coordinator.

During his six seasons at Texas Tech, Kingsbury led them to a record of 35-40 (46.7 percent), which includes three Bowl game appearances.
