Texans Offering S Tyrann Mathieu $9.5M Per Year In Long-Term Deal, Lions & Chiefs Interested

Albert Breer reports that the Texans have offered S Tyrann Mathieu a long-term deal in excess of $9.5 million per year to stay in Houston.

According to Breer, Houston wants to keep Mathieu and he’d like to stay, but the plan is for him to test the open market.

Aaron Wilson reports that the Lions and Chiefs are among the interested teams in Mathieu right now and despite recent reports, the Ravens aren’t involved at this time.

Mathieu, 26, is a former third-round pick of the Cardinals back in 2013. He was entering the third year of his five-year, $64.1 million contract that included $35 million guaranteed when the Cardinals released him back in March.

The Texans later signed Mathieu one-year contract worth $7 million to go along with incentives.

In 2018, Mathieu appeared in 16 games for the Texans and recorded 89 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions, a fumble recovery and eight pass defense.

We have him featured in our Top 100 – 2019 NFL Free Agents list.
