Texans & Pierre Thomas Unable To Reach Agreement Following Visit

Update:

Aaron Wilson reports that free agent RB Pierre Thomas wasn’t interested in signing a veteran minimum deal given his recent performance and the fact that he had offers from other teams.

  • According to Wilson, there’s still a chance that the Texans and Thomas could revisit the idea of him playing in Houston.
  • The two parties are likely to remain in touch over the next few weeks.

Lamont Smith, the agent for free agent RB Pierre Thomas, announced via his Twitter account that his client and the Texans were ultimately unable to reach an agreement on a contract following Thomas’ workout.

Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports that the Texans plan to sign former Saints RB Pierre Thomas following a successful tryout on Wednesday.

Thomas, 30, had two years remaining on his three-year, $6.9 million contract when the Saints elected to release him in a move that freed up $1.735 million in available cap space.

He was, arguably, the best running back still available in free agency, due to his effectiveness in third-down situations and in the screen game.

In 2014, Thomas ran for 222 yards on 45 carries (4.9 YPC) to go along with 45 receptions for 378 yards receiving and three touchdowns. Pro Football Focus has him rated as the No. 9 running back in the league out of 57 qualifying players.

We had Thomas listed as the No. 4 player in our Top 25 Available Free Agents list.
