Texans Worked Out TEs Brandon Barnes & Gabe Holmes

According to Howard Balzer, the Houston Texans brought in free agent TEs Brandon Barnes and Gabe HolmesĀ for workouts on Tuesday.

Holmes, 26, wound up signing on with the Raiders as an undrafted free agent out of Purdue back in May of 2015. He managed to make the 53-man roster coming out of preseason, but was cut loose just a few weeks later.

The Raiders later signed him to their practice squad after he cleared waivers and elected to bring Holmes back on a one-year,Ā exclusive rights contract this past April. Unfortunately, Oakland waived him coming out of the preseason and he later signed on to the Seahawks’ practice squad.

Seattle elected to release him a few weeks ago and he later signed on to the Ravens’ practice squad.

Holmes has yet to appear in an NFL game.

Barnes, 23, originally signed on with the Lions as an undrafted free agent out of Alabama State back in May. He was among Detroit’s final roster cuts and signed on with the Jets two weeks later. However, New York decided to waive him after a week.

During his four-year college career, Barnes recordedĀ 29 receptions for 436 yards receiving (15 YPC) and six touchdowns.
