Titans Could Release RB Chris Johnson Without Taking A Cap Hit

According to ESPN’s Adam Schefter, the Tennessee Titans will have a five-day window following the season where the can release RB Chris Johnson without taking a cap hit.

Should they choose to keep Johnson on their roster, $9 million of this $10 million salary will become guaranteed.

There’s been a lot of speculation dating back to last season that the Titans could look to get from under Johnson’s six-year, $55.26 million contract. It’s worth noting that Johnson has gone over the 1000 yard mark for the fifth straight time in his career and more encouraging than that is the fact that his yards-per-carry is up to 4.7.

Should Johnson become an unrestricted free agent, he’ll almost certainly draw plenty of interest from teams in need of help at running back.
