Vikings Finalize Restructure For OT Riley Reiff To Stay In Minnesota

According to Field Yates, the Vikings are finalizing a restructure for OT Riley Reiff

The Vikings need to make a move to clear cap space following their trade for DE Yannick Ngakoue and Reiff was identified as the source for the savings by the team.

The team asked him to take a pay cut or be released, so it appears he chose the former. Ian Rapoport reports Reiff’s agent called around seeing if any team would trade for Reiff on his current contract but didn’t find any takers.

According to Over The Cap, releasing Reiff would have freed up about $11 million in cap space with around $2.2 million in dead money as it’s after June 1.

Rieff, 31, is a former first-round pick by the Lions in the 2012 NFL Draft. He finished his four-year, $7,993,700 rookie contract with Detroit and another made $8,070,000 under his fifth-year option.

Reiff signed a five-year, $58.75 million deal with the Vikings as an unrestricted free agent in 2017. He was entering the fourth year of the deal and was set to make base salaries of $10.9 million and $11.65 million the next two seasons.

In 2019, Reiff started in 15 games for the Vikings. Pro Football Focus graded him as the No. 37 overall tackle out of 82 qualifying players.

We’ll have more on Reiff as the news is available.
