Howard Balzer reports that the Saints have officially signed WR Josh Huff and Jayrone Elliott to a futures contracts for the 2018 season on Friday.

The Saints have now signed 17 players to futures deals including:

  13. DB De’Vante Harris
  14. C Gabe Ikard
  15. DB Mykkele Thompson
  16. LB Jayrone Elliott
  17. WR Josh Huff

Futures deals are essentially camp invites that will give players the opportunity to compete for roster spots during offseason workouts and training camp.

The Saints actually worked Huff out a month ago, so he was clearly on their radar as a potential addition.

Huff, 25, is a former third-round pick of the Eagles back in 2014. He was in the third year of his four-year, $2,820,944 contract when the Eagles cut him loose last year.

The Buccaneers would later sign him to their practice squad after he cleared waivers and eventually call him towards the end of the 2016 season.

Unfortunately, the Bucs cut him loose coming out of the preseason.

In 2016, Huff appeared in 10 games and caught 16 passes for 113 yards receiving and a touchdown to go along with four rushing attempts for 15  yards. He has also totaled 324 kick return yards and a touchdown on special teams.

Elliott, 26, wound up signing on with the Packers as an undrafted free agent out Toledo back in 2014. He played out the final year of his three-year, $1,535,000 rookie contract with the Packers but did not receive a restricted offer from the team, which is why he’s been testing the open market.

Elliott re-signed with the Packers this offseason but was traded to the Cowboys at the start of the regular season for a conditional seventh-round pick in 2018. Dallas elected to cut Elliott loose after a few weeks.

In 2016, Elliott appeared in 11 games for the Packers and recorded 19 tackles and sack.
