Paul Dehner Jr. reports that the Bengals are expected to promote QB Keith Wenning to their active roster in the coming days.

Wenning will serve as A.J. McCarron‘s backup now that Andy Dalton will miss at least a few weeks after he broke his thumb during Sunday’s game.

Wenning, 24, is a former sixth-round pick of the Ravens during the 2014 draft. He was unable to make the team’s final 53-man roster coming out of the preseason last year, but spent last season on the team’s practice squad.

Baltimore wound up signing Wenning to a future/reserve contract in January, but was among the team’s final roster cuts. Cincinnati later added him to their practice squad.

Wenning has yet to appear in an NFL game.
