49ers Officially Sign WR Mohamed Sanu, Place WR Richie James On IR

Update:

The San Francisco 49ers announced Friday that they’ve officially signed veteran WR Mohamed Sanu to a contract and placed WR Richie James (hamstring) on injured reserve.

Agent Mike McCartney announced that his client, veteran WR Mohamed Sanu, has agreed to a one-year deal with the 49ers on Tuesday.

This reunites Sanu and 49ers HC Kyle Shanahan, who coached the receiver in 2016 with the Falcons.

Sanu, 31, is a former third-round pick of the Bengals back in 2012. He spent four years in Cincinnati before signing a five-year, $32.5 million contract that included $14 million guaranteed with the Falcons in 2016.

The Falcons traded Sanu to the Patriots for a second-round pick before last year’s deadline. Sanu was set to make a base salary of $6.5 million in 2020 when New England cut him loose earlier this month.

In 2019, Sanu appeared in 15 games for the Patriots and Falcons and caught 59 passes for 520 yards receiving and touchdowns. He also rushed for 11 yards.
