AFC Notes: Bills, Dolphins, Jets

Bills

  • The Athletic’s Joe Buscaglia notes safety as an under-the-radar concern for the Bills given S Jordan Poyer recently switched agents and approached the team about an extension. Both he and fellow starting S Micah Hyde are arguably underpaid but both are on the other side of 30. Poyer’s deal is up after 2022, Hyde’s after 2023.
  • Buscaglia theorizes that if Notre Dame S Kyle Hamilton starts to slide, the Bills would be willing to trade up to pick him. He even tosses out the idea of them giving up a 2023 first-round pick to get into the top 10 for Hamilton, who he calls a unique player and perfect scheme fit.
  • If Buffalo stays put late in the first round, Buscaglia mentions Michigan S Daxton Hill and Georgia S Lewis Cine as other options. Maryland S Nick Cross is also a potential second or third-round target, per Buscaglia.
  • The Bills have had a private workout with Miami WR Charleston Rambo in Florida. (Tony Pauline)
  • Wester Kentucky EDGE DeAngelo Malone has a private workout scheduled with the Bills. (Aaron Wilson)
  • The Bills hosted Virginia Tech TE James Mitchell for a top 30 visit this week. (Jeremy Fowler)

Dolphins

Saints DE Cameron Jordan offers praise for Dolphins QB Tua Tagovailoa, noting that he has both poise and room to grow.

“After playing Tua, [it’s Tua] because he has more room to grow,” Jordan said, via Barry Jackson of the Miami Herald. “He’s poised. He doesn’t get rattled. After playing Justin [Herbert], you can hit Justin. He gets a little rattled after you start sticking him early. Tua stays calm. He has that demeanor about him. He’s been hurt more, so he has so much more room to grow.”

Former NFL LB Willie McGinest also offered a comment on the state of the Dolphins’ roster and the potential they have to succeed next season

“You can bring in a collection of talent, it doesn’t really mean anything,” McGinest said. “But they brought in players who can make a difference right now. Tyreek Hill, how they upgraded running back [with Chase Edmonds and left tackle Terron] Armstead. They’ve brought in so much talent to win right now. The defense is solid. They’re going to be more physical than they were last year. You look at what they did in San Francisco. Physical, run the ball, a lot of misdirection, a lot of different formations offensively, short to intermediate, get Tua going, then you can probably strike down the field. They added a fullback. That means they’re running the ball.”

Jets

  • The Athletic’s Connor Hughes thinks the Jets could try to trade WR Denzel Mims on the final day of the draft, as he thinks the staff is ready to move on.
  • He also expects New York to focus on defensive end or tackle with the No. 4 pick and a receiver or trade down with the No. 10 pick.
  • Jordan Schultz reports that the Jets are hosting Penn State EDGE Jesse Luketa for a top-30 visit on Thursday.
  • The Jets worked out Columbia CB Will Allen Jr. (Aaron Wilson)
  • The Jets had a virtual meeting with Washington State CB Jaylen Watson. (Justin Melo)
