AFC Notes: Bills, Dolphins, Patriots

Bills

Former Bills QB Jim Kelly believes current Bills QB Josh Allen can be even better than he ever was.

“There’s no doubt,” Kelly said, via BuffaloBills.com. “I mean if he’s gone, I don’t know who is or who it’s going to be. He just has to be consistent. And I know him well enough to know that the kid can play. If you can get the right material around him, which I think he has, and the offensive line gives him time to throw things will be awesome. And talk about my records, I knew before last season started that those records aren’t going to stay around very long.”

Dolphins

  • ESPN’s Mike Tannenbaum mentions the Dolphins as one possible trade destination for Texans’ QB Deshaun Watson, if/when his legal situation is eventually resolved and he moves on to a new city and franchise.

Patriots

Anyone looking for a hint of drama in the Patriots’ quarterback room will likely be disappointed. Patriots incumbent starter Cam Newton stood behind the team’s selection of Mac Jones at No. 15 overall and called him the “right pick.”

“C’mon, man, let’s be honest. I’ve been playing this game long enough to know, like, that’s the right pick,” Newton said in an interview on ESPN Radio. “I’ve said it numerous and numerous of times. What you’re not going to get out of me is a disgruntled person. Mac and Cheese (Jones) is a person who, ever since I’ve seen him, has came on into the locker room with a business approach, doing the initiatives of learning his teammates, understanding that ‘I’ve got to raise my level of play from the collegiate level to the professional level.'”
