AFC Notes: Broncos, Chargers, Chiefs

Broncos

  • Per Denver 7’s Troy Renck, Broncos HC Vic Fangio said OLB Bradley Chubb‘s recovery from a torn ACL last year is going to be a process this year: “I think he’s kind of where we thought we would be What he’s going through is natural progression from injury. I am optimistic he will be out there the first week and playing good. It’s going to be work in progress.”
  • Broncos G Graham Glasgow is expected to return this week from a sprained ankle and his status for Week 1 shouldn’t be in doubt. (James Palmer)
  • New Broncos LB Mark Barron thought Denver made the most sense out of all his options: “I thought this was the best fit with everything that’s in place already and the coaching staff.” (Ryan O’Halloran)

Chargers

  • According to NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport, Chargers S Derwin James is expected to miss significant time with his meniscus injury. James is having surgery and his timeline will depend on if the doctors trim or repair his meniscus. 
  • If it’s a trim, James could be back in 4-6 weeks. If it’s a full repair, his timelines stretches to at least three months. 
  • The team announced: “Safety Derwin James suffered a right knee injury during yesterday’s practice. He will continue to be evaluated, and a timeframe for his return has not yet been determined.”
  • Chargers HC Anthony Lynn didn’t reveal anything else about James’ timeline but did say, “This could be tough for him, if he has to sit out another year.” James missed 11 games in 2019 with a broken foot. (Daniel Popper)
  • Lynn shot down any interest from Los Angeles in S Earl Thomas even after James’ injury: “Since you guys are constantly telling me how stacked my secondary is, why the hell would I be looking anywhere else?” (Popper)
