AFC Notes: Colts, Jets, Ravens

Colts

Jets

Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News reports that people within the Jets’ organization are “profoundly disappointed” with CB Trumaine Johnson, who signed five-year, $72 million deal in the offseason.

One source within the Jets tells Mehta that they “thought he’d be better.

  • Although Mehta points out that Jets GM Mike Maccagnan has not done the best job compiling talent, he does not think New York will begin a total rebuild in 2019.
  • Mehta “firmly believes” that the Jets’ head coaching job will be “extremely appealing” to coaches who want to develop QB Sam Darnold in the event they move on from Todd Bowles.
  • Mehta writes that soon-to-be free agent RB Le’Veon Bellbetter be” on the Jets’ radar this offseason, while the team has “ample” cap space at $95 million to sign Bell and address “several” other needs.

Ravens

Ravens LB Kenny Young credited the team’s defensive success to their “keep it real session,” where players and coaches address problems that need correcting.

We put some goals together that we set as a defense collectively. Every meeting, whether we lose or win, we always have a “keep it real” session where we always take our egos out of the room,” said Young, via NFL.com. “It’s not for your feelings to get hurt or get mad if a coach or player is getting on you. It’s about addressing the problem and where we need to get better.
