AFC Notes: Colts, Texans, Titans

Colts

Joe Hopkins of CBS4Indy takes a look at five Colts who are in the “best position” for a breakout season in 2020:

  1. DE Kemoko Turay
  2. CB Rock Ya-Sin
  3. RB Jonathan Taylor
  4. WR Michael Pittman Jr.
  5. WR Parris Campbell

Texans

  • Aaron Wilson of the Houston Chronicle reports the Texans are now exploring other veteran free-agent options after moving on from DT Timmy Jernigan, who failed his physical after agreeing to a one-year $3.75 million deal in April.

Titans

  • Titans OLB coach Shane Bowen said their goal for OLB Vic Beasley is to regain his 2016 form when he led the NFL with 15.5 sacks: “I think our goal is to get him back to that (2016) level (when he led the NFL in sacks). Ultimately, he’s got to do some stuff on first and second down. That’s a big aspect, developing him there. …I’m excited about what he brings.” (Eric Bacharach)
  • Bowen mentioned that he is “pleased with the leadership” shown by LB Kamalei Correa this offseason. (Jim Wyatt)
  • As for the possibility of the Titans pursuing EDGE Jadeveon Clowney, Bowen pointed out that he’s worked with Clowney in Houston from 2016-2017: “I worked with JD for a few years and enjoyed it. I have no idea what’s going to happen. That’s above my pay scale.” (Terry McCormick)
  • Bowen added that he has “no idea” if the Titans are pursuing Clowney, but mentioned that the edge rusher would be familiar with their system: “I enjoyed working with JD for a few years. I have no idea what will happen. In terms of familiarity, anytime you have a guy familiar w/the system it speeds up the process as far as transition.” (Turron Davenport)
  • Bowen said the Titans’ coaching staff has not had many discussions about play-calling duties in 2020: “We don’t have to call a play until the first preseason in August, so there hasn’t been a lot of discussion about (play-calling).” (Bacharach)
  • Bowen believes Titans OLB Harold Landry’s dip in production in the final weeks of the 2019 season was due to his workload being too heavy: “In my mind, he played too many plays.”  (Bacharach)
  • Bowen said the Titans’ staff’s transition away from former DC Dean Pees and DBs coach Kerry Coombs “has been seamless” for them: “The consistency in our scheme has been huge, especially in this offseason.” (Bacharach)
  • Titans ILB coach Jim Haslett sees a lot of “upside” in both LBs Rashaan Evans and Jayon Brown:I see nothing but upside in both of them.” (Bacharach)
