Bears Expected To Add Established Veteran QB This Offseason

Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, citing multiple league sources, reports that the Bears are expected to add an established veteran quarterback this offseason who has “pedigree and extensive starting experience.”

According to Fowler, Chicago is currently evaluating its options at the position, but they feel an upgrade is needed at backup quarterback at this time. This, of course, means that they are likely moving on from Chase Daniel.

Fowler says that Marcus Mariota and Case Keenum are both free agent options for the Bears with Bengals QB Andy Dalton possibly be available for trade.

Some recent reports have said that the Bears have spoken to Bengals about a potential trade for Dalton, so that’s certainly something to keep an eye on in the coming weeks.

As of now, Chicago is projected to have around $25 million of cap room to work with this offseason while Dalton comes with a $17.7 million cap hit. Fowler mentions that Cincinnati might be able to eat some of that money to facilitate a trade.

At the Combine, Bears GM Ryan Pace said that Mitch Trubisky will be the starter in 2020, but he was noncommittal about picking up Trubisky’s fifth-year option for the 2021 season.

We’ll have more regarding the Bears as the news is available.
