Bears Expected To Release TE Dion Sims

Ian Rapoport of NFL Media reports that the Bears are expected to release veteran TE Dion Sims.

This doesn’t come as a big surprise, seeing as Sims had been mentioned as a potential roster cut for the past few months.

Sims, 28, is a former fourth-round pick of the Dolphins back in 2013. He has played out his four-year, $2,627,552 contract with Miami before agreeing to a three-year, $18 million with the Bears for the 2017 season.

Sims was in the final year of the agreement and set to make a base salary of $6 million for the 2019 season.

According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Sims will free up $6 million of available cap space while creating $333,334 in dead money.

In 2018, Sims appeared in eight games for the Bears and caught just two passes for nine yards receiving and no touchdowns.
