Colts Sign Veteran LB Akeem Ayers, Waive CB Neiko Thorpe

The Indianapolis Colts announced Monday that they’ve signed LB Akeem Ayers and waived CB Neiko Thorpe.

  • The Colts also signed CB Frankie Williams to their practice squad.

Ayers, 27, is a former seventh-round pick of the Titans back in 2011. He was later traded to the Patriots in return for a 2015 sixth-round pick.

The Rams signed him to a two-year, $6 million contract with $2.75 million guaranteed back in March of last year. However, Ayers was unfortunately to cut him loose by the Rams last week.

In 2015, Ayers appeared in all 16 games for the Rams and recorded 47 tackles, a half sack, a forced fumble, three recoveries with one being returned for a touchdown and five pass defenses.

Thorpe, 26, originally signed on with the Chiefs as an undrafted free agent out of Auburn back in 2012. He spent two years in Kansas City before he signed a future/reserve contract with the Raiders at the end of 2014.

Thorpe returned to Oakland on a one-year exclusive rights deal last year, but elected to cut him loose this past weekend.

In 2015, Thorpe appeared in 14 games for the Raiders and recorded 40 tackles, one interception and six pass defenses.
