Mike Garafolo of NFL Media reports that the Dolphins are also releasing DTÂ Earl Mitchell on Thursday.
There was talk that Mitchell could be a release candidate in the coming weeks, so this doesn’t come as a big surprise.
Mitchell, 29, is a former third-round pick of the Texans back in 2010. He spent four years in Houston before signing a four-year, $19 million contract that included $8 million guaranteed with the Dolphins.
Mitchell was set to make a base salary of $4 million for the 2017 season.
According to OverTheCap.com, releasing Mitchell will free up $4 million of available cap space while creating $500,000 in dead money.
In 2016, Mitchell has appeared in nine games and recorded 17 tackles and no sacks for the Dolphins.
