Dolphins Promote DL Cameron Malveaux, Place S Maurice Smith On NFI List

The Miami Dolphins announced Saturday that they’ve promoted DL Cameron Malveaux to their active roster and placed S Maurice Smith on the reserve/non-football illness list.

By placing Smith on the NFI list, it officially ends his 2017 season.

Malveaux, 23, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Houston back in May. He was set to make base salaries of $465,000 and $555,000 over the first two years of the contract when the Dolphins cut him loose coming out of the preseason and later signed him to their practice squad.

During his college career at Houston, Malveaux recorded 80 tackles, 16.5 tackles for a loss, 3.5 sacks, seven pass defenses and three fumble recoveries over the course of 39 games.

Smith, 22, wound up signing a three-year, $1.66 million contract with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia back in May. He stands to make base salaries of $465,000 and $555,000 over the first two years of the contract.

In 2017, Smith appeared in six games for the Dolphins and recorded one tackle and a pass defense.
