Dolphins Waive OL Hroniss Grasu, Promote S Maurice Smith

The Miami Dolphins announced Friday that they’ve waived OL Hroniss Grasu and promoted S Maurice Smith to their active roster.

Grasu, 27, is a former third-round pick of the Bears back in 2015. He was in the final year of his four-year, $3.44 million contract that included $814,855 guaranteed and set to make a base salary of $705,000 for the 2018 season when the Bears waived him coming out of the preseason.

Grasu had a brief stint with the Ravens this year before signing on with the Dolphins a few weeks ago.

In 2018, Grasu has appeared in three games for the Ravens and Dolphins.

Smith, 23, wound up signing on with the Dolphins as an undrafted free agent out of Georgia back in May of last year. He managed to make the Dolphins’ 53-man roster coming out of the preseason last year, but was among the team’s final roster cuts a few weeks ago.

The Dolphins later signed Smith to their practice squad after he cleared waivers. Since then, he’s been on and off of their Dolphins’ active roster.

In 2018, Smith has appeared in five games for the Dolphins and recorded three tackles and one pass defense.
