Eagles Sign QB Christian Hackenberg, Waive/Injured C Ian Park

Update:

The Eagles have already announced the signing of QB Christian Hackenberg along with the release of C Ian Park.

Tom Pelissero reports that the Eagles are signing QB Christian Hackenberg to a contract on Sunday.

According to Pelissero, this move is not a reflection on the health of Carson Wentz or Nick Foles. Instead, the Eagles are just giving Hackenberg a chance to try to develop much like they did with Nate Sudfeld last year.

The Patriots brought Hackenberg in for a visit in June, but elected to not sign him to a contract.

Hackenberg, 23, is a former second-round pick of the Jets back in 2016. He’s entering the final year of his four-year, $4.7 million contract and stands to make a base salary of $1.08 million for the 2018 season.

The Jets traded Hackenberg to the Raiders last month for a conditional seventh-round pick. However, Oakland waived him a few months ago.

During his three-year college career at Penn State, Hackenberg threw for 8,457 yards while completing 56.1 percent of his passes to go along with 48 touchdowns and 31 interceptions.

Hackenberg has yet to appear in an NFL game.
