Zach Berman was first to report that the Eagles have traded NT Isaac Sopoaga and a sixth-round pick to the Patriots in return for a fifth-round pick in 2014.
- Multiple sources have since confirmed the deal.
- ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that this deal was in the works not too long ago.
The Patriots are always good for one deadline deal.
Sopoaga, 32, signed a three-year deal worth $11 million that included $3.75 million guaranteed with the Eagles back in March. Philadelphia will have paid him $3.75 million for just eight games.
The Patriots could obviously use some additional help at defensive tackle and this is a low-risk move on their part. They will only pay Sopoaga $529,412 in salary for the remainder of the season, according to Overthecap.com.
