Falcons Rule Out QB Matt Ryan For Week 8, Starting Matt Schaub

The Atlanta Falcons announced Saturday that Matt Ryan will miss Sunday’s game against the Seahawks with an ankle injury.

The Falcons will start Matt Schaub in place of Ryan with Danny Etling serving as their backup.

Ryan’s ankle injury isn’t considered to be a serious issue, but with the team already struggling, it doesn’t make a lot of sense to rush him back until he’s closer to full strength.

Ryan, 34, is a former first-round pick of the Falcons back in 2008. He was entering the final year of his six-year, $103.75 million contract when he agreed to a new five-year, $150 million extension with the Falcons last year that included $100 million guaranteed.

Ryan stands to make base salaries of $11,500,000 and $20,500,000 over the next two years.

In2019, Ryan has appeared in all six games for the Falcons and thrown for 2,170 yards while completing 70.9 percent of his passes to go along with 15 touchdowns and eight interceptions.
