Giants Decline OT Ereck Flowers’ Fifth-Year Option

According to Adam Schefter, the Giants have declined to exercise RT Ereck Flowers fifth-year option.

The fifth-year option will cost New York $12,525,000 million for the 2019 season. However, it was clear that the Giants weren’t going to be picking this up, given that he hasn’t come close to living up to his draft status.

The Giants were reportedly looking for a mid-round pick in return for Flowers during the draft, but couldn’t find a taker. Flowers skipped voluntary workouts last week, so it remains to be seen whether he’ll be back with the team for the 2018 season.

Flowers, 23, is a former No. 9 overall pick out of Miami by the Giants in the 2015 NFL Draft. He is entering the final year of a four-year $14.391 million rookie contract that is fully guaranteed is set to earn a base salary of $2,397,522 for 2018.

In 2017, Flowers appeared in 15 games for the Giants and was rated by Pro Football Focus as the No. 54 overall tackle out of 81 qualifiers.
