Giants Release FB Will Johnson, Could Still Bring Him Back

Update:

Jordan Raanan of ESPN is reporting that the Giants are, in fact, releasing FB Will Johnson.

Dan Duggan of NJ.com spoke to FB Will Johnson, who mentioned that the Giants plan to release, but would still like to re-sign him at the veteran minimum.

I’d like to come back, but I know they just signed a guy who basically does the same thing I do, so I don’t know if they even want me back,” Johnson said. “They’re aware that I can sign elsewhere. I plan to shop around. There’s not much of a market for me coming off (injured reserve) for a season. So, we’ll see how things turn out.”

Johnson, 27, wound up signing on with the Ravens as an undrafted free agent out of West Virginia back in 2009. After a few years in Baltimore, Johnson signed on with the Steelers back in 2012 as unrestricted free agent.

Johnson spent four years in Pittsburgh before signed a two-year, $2.3 million contract with the Giants in April of last year.

Unfortunately, he missed the entire 2016 season after he was placed on injured reserve coming out of the preseason with a neck injury.
