Jaguars DT Marcell Dareus Cited For Marijuana Possession

According to WJXT News4Jax, Jaguars DT Marcell Dareus was cited for possession of marijuana after a traffic stop early Wednesday morning.

The incident report shows that Dareus was pulled over just before 2 am for speeding for going about 50 mph in a 35 mph zone.

The officer noted that a strong odor of marijuana was coming from the vehicle and found two joints and a marijuana grinder after searching the vehicle.

Dareus didn’t take responsibility for the marijuana or the marijuana grinder that were found. He’s now expected appear for charges of possession of marijuana under 20 grams and possession of drug paraphernalia.

The Jaguars released the following statement regarding Dareus:

“The Jaguars are aware of a citation involving DT Marcell Dareus. The matter will be handled internally.

Dareus, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Bills back in 2011. He signed a massive seven-year, $103.2 million contract that included $60 million guaranteed with the Bills back in 2015 before being traded to the Jaguars in 2017 for a 2018 sixth-round pick.

Dareus six a six-year, $95.1 million contract with the Bills back in 2015 that included $60 million guaranteed. He later agreed to restructure the agreement with the Jaguars this past February and is owed $2.835 million in 2019 and $9.5 million in 2020.

In 2019, Dareus has appeared in three games and recorded six tackles and a half sack.
