Jets Considering Gregg Williams For Defensive Coordinator Job

Adam Schefter and Jeff Darlington are reporting that Gregg Williams is being considered for the Jets’ defensive coordinator position on Adam Gase’s staff.

A separate report mentioned that Vance Joseph could be an option for the job as well.

Williams actually interviewed for the head-coaching job, but the Browns elected to hire Freddie Kitchens on Wednesday.

Williams, 60, has worked for several NFL teams over the course of his career including the Oilers/Titans, Bills, Redskins, Jaguars, Saints, and Rams before the Browns hired him as their defensive coordinator for the 2017 season.

After the Browns fired Hue Jackson, Williams was elevated to interim head coach.

Under Williams, the Browns went 5-3 this season.

  1. Gregg Williams got a raw deal from the Brownies. Williams’ defense produced this year for the Brownies. Also! When the Jackson/Haley tantrum fest boiled over in Cleveland, Williams stepped in as interim HC and coached them to a respectable 5-3 second half finish to this season.
GM Dorsey could have handled Williams’ a lot better then the way he did. Dorsey could have done all his HC interviews. Then sat down with Kitchens and Williams and let them both know, he was leaning in the offensive direction for the next HC. And offer Williams the opportunity to stay on as the DC and AHC. But! That’s just my opinion.
Remember! Mr. Dorsey, championships are won with great defenses. And Williams was getting it done on that side of the ball. Another DE and your team would have been a nightmare for opposing offenses next season under Gregg Williams.
I understand the continuity and growth of Baker Mayfield. But! What about the growth and continuity of Garrett, Ward, Peppers, etc.?!
