Jets In Talks To Hire Gregg Williams As Defensive Coordinator

Ian Rapoport reports that the Jets are in talks with Gregg Williams to become their new defensive coordinator.

Rapoport says that talks are progressing in this direction, and those involved believe it’ll get done.

This would be the first big hire from new Jets’ head coach Adam Gase since he got the job a few days ago.

The Jets had also been linked to Vance Joseph in recent days, but he is reportedly joining the Cardinals as their defensive coordinator.

Williams, 60, has worked for several NFL teams over the course of his career including the Oilers/Titans, Bills, Redskins, Jaguars, Saints, and Rams before the Browns hired him as their defensive coordinator for the 2017 season.

After the Browns fired Hue Jackson, Williams was elevated to interim head coach.

Under Williams, the Browns went 5-3 this season.
