Kliff Kingsbury On No. 1 Overall Pick: “Everything Is On The Table”

New Cardinals HC Kliff Kingsbury tells Steve Wyche of the NFL Network that “everything is on the table” in regards to the No. 1 overall pick.

“I think everything’s on the table,” Kingsbury said. “When you have that first pick, you’ve gotta turn over every stone and look at every scenario that’s out there, and so we’re definitely doing that.”

While there has been a lot of reports and speculation that the Cardinals are set on taking Oklahoma QB Kyler Murray at No. 1 overall, Kingsbury maintains that no decision has been up to this point.

“We haven’t [decided what we’re going to do with the top pick]. We haven’t. We’re a long ways from that,” Kingsbury said. “You know, coaches on the road, scouts from the road, private workouts, pro days. And we won’t even discuss until next week and try to fill our board and go from there.”

According to Kingsbury, their feelings toward Josh Rosen haven’t changed, despite the fact that he’s come up consistently in trade speculation over the past few months.

“Yeah, I think you focus on what you can control and Josh knows our feelings on him and that hasn’t changed. He’s a tremendous talent,” Kingsbury said. “So, excited about his future.

Kingsbury added that he has been in contact with Rosen.

“Yeah, I’ve talked to Josh and he understands it’s a business and what all goes with the first pick and what’s going on,” Kingsbury said.

While Kingsbury said Rosen could return next year, he also left the door open to possibly drafting Murray at No. 1 overall.

“Yeah, I do [think Rosen could remain with the team]. I do,” Kingsbury said. “I mean, when you have the first pick, anything can happen, as you know, but you know, he’s a talented player, and we’re very high on him and that hasn’t changed.”

We’ll have more regarding the Cardinals as the news is available.

  1. This is a really screwed up situation the Cardinals’ organization created with Josh Rosen. The Cardinals drafted Rosen and told him he is there guy. Then the new Steve Wilks coaching regime is canned after one season. Now! The new coaching regime led by Kliff Kingsbury is telling Rosen you’re our guy and in the same breath, according to Kingsbury’s prior statements, it seems like their pick in 2019 will be used on Kyler Murray.

What does this do for the psyche of Josh Rosen? If I were Rosen, I would go to management and ask to be traded. Because! The offense Kingsbury operates does not comply with Rosen’s skillset. Rosen is better suited for a pro style play action offense with a large dose of running. With that being said. I think Rosen would be a fit with the Broncos or Raiders. With the Broncos, Rosen can learn from vet Joe Flacco for a year. And Rosen would be at home on the west coast. The same for the Raiders as far as location. And Rosen could sit behind Derek Carr for a year and then be the new QB when the Raiders move to Las Vegas. And the Raiders have 2 late 2019 1st rounders that could make Rosen’s new home in the desert happen.

A lot of people are saying Rosen is going too the GMEN via trade. This scenario is not happening. First of all the reason Gettleman took Barkley at #2 instead of Darnold, Rosen, Allen or Jackson, was in Gettleman’s own words, “not one of the QBS in the 2018 Draft were gold jacket type players at their positions, and he meaning Gettleman felt not one of them would be in the league in 5 years.” Do you really think Gettleman is going to eat crow and trade for Rosen?

Write this down NFLTR. Because! In the 2020 offseason, the GMEN will have a new QB and his name is Cam Newton. It makes all the sense in the world. First of all, Gettleman knows Newton perfectly from their time together in Carolina. Gettleman also made Newton a rich man while GMing in Carolina. The GMEN OC Mike Shula was Newton’s OC in Carolina. Elisha Manning is out after 2019 and Carolina has been interviewing a lot of QBs in the 2019 Draft this offseason, most recently Carolina sat down with WVUs Will Grier. Carolina is in turn over mode. And Carolina ownership will want their own QB of the future to pair with their young RBs and young WRs. Lastly! The GMEN will have loads of cap space to fit Newton and a new contract extension into in 2020.

  2. i don’t know a lot about Murray, definitely has some red flags with height, that Dan Patrick interview made him look like an idiot. But when compared to the “outspoken” petulant child, trendy Trump basher Josh Rosen, Murray is a no brainer.
