Saints RB Mark Ingram, who is line to be an unrestricted free agent in the coming months, says he’s hoping to back in New Orleans for the 2019 season and beyond.
“I was drafted here,” Ingram said, per Josh Katzenstein. “I met my wife here. My children were born here. Very rarely does anybody get to spend their career in one place. I love New Orleans. I love this team. I love this organization, so we’ll see. We’ll see what happens. I hope we win a Super Bowl and hopefully everything works out. It’s a business, and I hope everything works out. I love it here. . . .I’m not looking just to leave New Orleans. I’m not looking to just up and leave New Orleans. My squad, you know we’ve got a good squad. I feel like we could do this type of thing for many more years. I’m not looking just to bail out of New Orleans.”
Ingram will be one of the best available running backs in this year’s free agent market and has proven to be a good compliment to Alvin Kamara, so it will be interesting to see how the Saints handle this in coming months.
Ingram, 29, is a former first-round pick of the Saints back in 2011. He played out his rookie contract before returning to the Saints on a four-year, $16 million contract that included $7.6 million guaranteed a few years ago.
Ingram stands to make a base salary of $4 million in the final year of the agreement before becoming an unrestricted free agent in March.
In 2018, Ingram appeared in 12 games and rushed for 645 yards on 138 carries (4.7 YPC) to go along with 21 receptions for 17 yards receiving and seven total touchdowns. Pro Football Focus had him rated as the No. 15 running back out of 61 qualifying players.
