Tom Pelissero of NFL Media reports that further tests revealed that Lions QB Matthew Stafford has a partial tear in a ligament in the thumb on his throwing hand.

According to Pelissero, Stafford plans to take the week to see how he’s able to throw the ball. However, Pelissero adds that the expectation is he will start for Detroit against the Panthers.

The Lions have Chase Daniel in place as Stafford’s backup in the event he’s unable to play in Week 11.

Stafford, 32, is a former first-round pick of the Lions back in 2009. He was in the final year of his five-year, $76.5 million contract when he and the Lions agreed to a five-year, $135 million extension back in 2017.

Stafford stands to make base salaries of $15 million and $9.5 million over the next two years of the agreement.

In 2020, Stafford has appeared in nine games and completed 63.7 percent of his passes for 2,403 yards, 17 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
