“Mounting Belief” Browns Take Baker Mayfield With No. 1 Pick

Adam Schefter of ESPN reports that there is “mounting belief” from head coaches and GMs around the NFL that the Browns will take Oklahoma QB Baker Mayfield with the No. 1 overall pick.

Yesterday, Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com, citing league sources, reported that the Browns could be down to either Josh Allen or Mayfield at No. 1 overall.

According to Cabot, the Browns have given strong consideration to all of the four top quarterbacks in the draft — Allen, Mayfield, Sam Darnold and Josh Rosen — but it appears as though they’ve narrowed their choices to Allen or Mayfield based on what her sources have said.

In fact, sources tell Cabot that the Browns have “cooled” on Darnold, despite the fact that many believe he will be the first pick.

It’s worth mentioning that the Browns hired Scot McCloughan as a draft consultant and he’s on record saying that Mayfield was his top quarterback prospect this year.

Mayfield, 23, is considered by some evaluators to be the top quarterback prospect in this year’s draft and he should be a top-five pick when all is said and done.

During his four-year college career at Texas Tech and Oklahoma, Mayfield threw for 14,607 yards while completing 68.5 percent of his passes to go along with 131 touchdowns and 30 interceptions over the course of 48 games. He also rushed 1,083 yards and 21 touchdowns.

Mayfield was the 2017 Heisman Trophy winner.

We’ll have more regarding the Browns as the news is available.
