NFC East Notes: Cowboys, Eagles, Giants, Redskins

Cowboys

Cowboys WR Cole Beasley mentioned that Dallas’ receiving core will “shock people” this season.

Cole Beasley told me to tell everybody,” said Irvin, via NFL.com. “He said, Michael, I know everybody is wondering what we will be doing at the wide-receiver position. But I guarantee you we will shock people.”

  • Calvin Watkins reports that the Cowboys have had no contact with DE David Irving, who continues to deal with personal issues away from the team.

Eagles

Eagles QB Carson Wentz said he would be “fine” missing the entire preseason as he recovered from torn LCL and ACL ligaments.

I don’t think it’s a big hurdle for me,” said Wentz, via Rueben Frank of NBC Philadelphia. “Would I love to be out there on Thursday? Absolutely. I’d love to be out there every day. But I think for me personally, I think I’ll be fine if I don’t get out there for preseason.

Wentz added that he feels good “mechanically” and that he has not lost a step due to his knee injury.

I feel really good mechanically and everything,” said Wentz. “Arm feels strong. Feel like I can make all the throws. Don’t feel like I’ve lost a step because of the knee.

  • Tom Pelissero reports that the Eagles signed S Corey Graham to a one-year, $1.715 million contract with $1.515 million guaranteed.

Giants

  • Dan Duggan reports that the Giants signed CB Leonard Johnson to a one-year contract using the Minimum Salary Benefit. Johnson will make $790,000 for the 2018 season, but has a cap figure of just $690,000K.

Redskins

Redskins QB Alex Smith does not feel that second-round QB Derrius Guice has any “real weakness” and complimented the rookie’s pass protection and running abilities.

You hear all this nonsense, I guess, that’s out there. The kid has a smile on his face 24/7. He loves playing ball, he loves being out there. Then to be honest, I don’t feel like there’s a real weakness in his game,” said Smith, via Scott Allen of the Washington Post. “Pass game, protection, certainly he can run the ball. I feel like he does a heck of a job in protections, I feel like in the pass game he’s a weapon as well. So, I’m excited for him. Certainly as a running back, I think those guys really get to shine when we get the pads on and it goes live, and they can show breaking tackles and open-field stuff. … I think he’s got a lot ahead of him.
